"About ten years ago I took a weekend training, and learned about writing true letters of forgiveness--we practiced by writing letters to our parents, even if they were already dead, thanking them for giving us a start in life."
"The important thing about the letter was that there could be NO hidden thorns of any kind--the letter had to be wholly generous. We read them in front of the 150 people taking the workshop. If they were not generous enough, we were sent back to re-write them. Again and again, if need be."
"He went home and wrote a letter to his mother, and brought it to me to read it to make sure that it was generous enough. It was a moving, open-hearted letter. Apparently a friend read her the letter on three occasions. She cried with joy each time. Two weeks later, she passed away."

homeless
I regularly talk with and give money to a disabled homeless woman here in my community. Her name is Anne, and her face is filled with pain. But when she smiles... her whole being changes. My goal, and I see her a couple of times a week, is to bring out that smile. Around Christmas I empty my wallet and give her whatever I have.
Last time I saw her, I gave her $5. But the money seems less important than the conversation, human being to human being.
